CLASS DESCRIPTIONGet a jump-start on telling impactful stories with our new Writer’s Room class! This hands-on workshop provides you with a toolkit of helpful resources on how to bring your project from concept to completion.In this 2-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll work as a small group to learn the basics of the film industry, and work with a toolkit of helpful resources on what it takes to produce your own story that you’ll feel confident distributing. You’ll dive into the pre-production process to organize your ideas into a basic story structure through storyboards, mood boards, interview questions, and scripts. Then, you’ll utilize additional tools to bring your story to production through building the crew, equipment checklists, mapping overheads and floor plans, and shot lists. We’ll cover how to prepare a basic budget, as well as best practices in copyrighting and media licensing.Registration closes on Wednesday, April 6th at 9pm.DETAILS$60 for non-members / $30 for SPEAK MPLS membersThis in-person class will be held at the SPEAK MPLS Northeast media lab, located within the Waterbury Building at 1121 Jackson Street NE Studio #128, Minneapolis, MN 55413. The Waterbury, a large, red building, is located near the corner of Broadway St. NE and Central Ave. NE in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.INSTRUCTOR + BIORebecca is CEO of BFRESH Productions and SPEAK MPLS and a director, photographer, and entrepreneur with over 15 years of leadership across legacy and community media, journalism, and strategic communication. She is dedicated to bringing communities together through storytelling to reflect a more accessible, inclusive and collaborative people-first future. Rebecca is a descendent of the White Earth Anishinaabe and believes sharing personal histories and narratives can be powerful catalysts for social change. Her work has appeared on PBS, MTV, Pacifica Radio, and in the pages of ColorLines Magazine, The Nation, The SOURCE, VIBE Magazine, and The Village Voice/City Pages.INTRODUCTORY LEVEL CLASSThis class is perfect for beginners and open to all skill levels! SPEAK MPLS is your community media home. We offer four introductory level classes for anyone that has a story to share. Dive deep into your media journey by joining one of our monthly cohorts and implementing our industry‘s best practices. Kick-start your production journey with the "Writer’s Room." Design your studio production from start to finish in "LIVE On Set." Take your project on-the-go during "In The Field." Finalize your story and share it with Minneapolis in the "Edit Lab." With these classes, you’ll gain the skills and reference resources for a successful production experience.CLASS REGISTRATION, ATTENDANCE, CANCELLATION + OTHER POLICIES- Class schedules and registration information are available at www.speakmpls.com. - Once registered, participants will receive an email confirmation with directions and parking information for the SPEAK MPLS Northeast studio.- Please arrive on time. The instructor will begin at the start of class.- In the event that a class must be canceled, SPEAK MPLS will contact registered participants with as much notification as possible, to either reschedule or refund the cost of the class.- A participant may cancel a class by providing written notice of cancellation to SPEAK MPLS’ Media Labs Manager James Harris at james@speakmpls.com within 48-hours of the scheduled class. Participants may have a one-time option to reschedule the class at no additional cost.  If a participant fails to attend the rescheduled class, no refunds for class fee will be granted.  If the class was a one-on-one class, the instructor has the discretion to reschedule based on the instructor’s availability.- If participants have financial challenges to pay for membership or classes, SPEAK MPLS offers a sliding scale fee.
